With the CoServ EVX ChargeSmart program, we've taken the guesswork out of charging. By opting in, you can still plug your car in as you normally do, and we'll manage the rest, making sure you're charging during off-peak hours.
WHEN: The EVX ChargeSmart Program runs year-round, with off-peak and peak hours changing depending on the winter or summer months.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE: All residential CoServ Members who own an eligible EV and do most of their charging at home.
WHAT: An incentive program that rewards Members for charging their EV during off-peak hours. You can earn 3¢ per kWh for eligible off-peak charging, so the more you shift charging to off-peak times, the more you earn.
WHY: As CoServ's service area grows, more demand is added to the electric grid. By creating programs like Rush Hour Rewards and the EVX ChargeSmart program, we help lower demand and keep reserves on the grid steady. This also helps reduce our transmission costs for the following year, saving you even more on your electricity bill. Learn more about peak events.
HOW DOES IT WORK? The EVX ChargeSmart Beta Program will allow you to plug in your car just as you usually do, whether that's at 6 PM when you get home from work or 2 PM on Saturday after running errands. It will automatically delay charging until after peak times.
What if you need to charge during peak hours? That's no problem; you can easily opt-out so you're always in control. Read our full Terms and Conditions

EVX ChargeSmart Program FAQ
What does managed charging mean?
Managed charging considers the vehicle’s energy needs and charging objectives (e.g., charging during off-peak hours) and creates a streamlined way to achieve both.
Will participation in CoServ's EVX ChargeSmart program affect my current rate?
No, your rate and any optional programs that you're enrolled in will stay the same.
How are peak hours determined?
The peak times used in the EVX ChargeSmart program were derived from the previous year’s trends, when CoServ experienced the highest demand on its systems.
Do I need to do anything during peak hours?
No. EVX ChargeSmart actively manages charging for your vehicle, so you don’t need to take any action during peak hours. If your car is plugged in and above 20% battery, the program will automatically delay charging until after peak hours to help lower demand.
Can I opt-out if I need to charge during peak times?
You are always in control of your vehicle. You can easily opt-out through the app if you need to charge during peak hours.
Why is my vehicle ineligible?
There are several reasons your vehicle may be ineligible for CoServ's EVX ChargeSmart Beta program. The most common reason is data access restrictions from the OEM. Some OEMs have decided to limit participation in managed charging programs, while others may limit accessible data or simply prevent access to manage charging times.
Why is my charging location important?
EVX ChargeSmart only manages charging and transmits charging-session information at your defined location(s). For example, if your charging location is set to your home address and you plug in elsewhere during an event, no data is transmitted and your car will not participate in managed charging.
What does EVX ChargeSmart do with my car information?
We use your car’s existing API to help you save money each month through active managed charging, comply with the charging preferences you set in the app, and provide anonymized driving data to CoServ to plan new grid infrastructure and optimize EV charging locations. See the Privacy Policy on CoServ.com for details on how we manage your data.
Does CoServ install electric vehicle chargers for members?
No. We recommend contacting an electrician of your choice for assistance.
How does EVX ChargeSmart manage charging?
EVX ChargeSmart can manage your vehicle’s charging in two ways: via your vehicle manufacturer’s connected services or via a compatible home charger. Both options help shift charging to off-peak hours. During enrollment, you’ll select the option that best suits your equipment.
Will my home charger work with EVX ChargeSmart?
Not all chargers are compatible. EVX ChargeSmart works with select smart chargers that can communicate securely and support charging schedule management.
We support Chargepoint, Emporia, Evocharge, and Tesla.
What’s the difference between managing charging through my car vs my charger?
When you use your vehicle, EVX ChargeSmart communicates directly with your car via the manufacturer’s system. When using a charger, the program manages charging through your home charger instead. Both options help shift charging to off-peak hours, but setup and compatibility requirements may differ.
Can I use both my vehicle and charger to manage charging?
No. Only one method can control charging at a time to avoid conflicts. You’ll choose either your vehicle or your charger during setup.
Top Enrollment & Driver Questions
What do you mean by OEM account or app?
The Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) is the maker of your car (e.g., Tesla, Chevrolet), and each has its own way of communicating with the vehicle — often called a ‘connected services app.’ To connect your car to EVX ChargeSmart, you’ll need your login credentials associated with the manufacturers service app.
What if I don’t know my login for my car’s online account with my manufacturer?
You’ll need to request or reset your account information with your manufacturer to obtain the correct credentials. This is required to connect your car to EVX ChargeSmart.
Can I add another car?
Yes, you can add a second car to your account. However, you will only receive a bill credit for the first car. To add another vehicle, go to your Dashboard and click “Add Vehicle +” at the bottom, then select your vehicle and add your login credentials.
How do I delete my car?
In your Dashboard, click the red outlined X next to your vehicle and confirm that you want to delete the selected vehicle.
Is my information secure?
Yes. CoServ takes data security and privacy seriously and uses an encrypted token to communicate with your EV telematics system.
What’s the difference between a hybrid, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and a battery electric vehicle (BEV)?
A hybrid runs on gasoline but uses a generator to power an electric motor that assists the engine; it relies entirely on gasoline and requires no charging. A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) has a battery-powered electric motor and switches to a gasoline backup when depleted; it can be charged daily but can also run on gasoline, typically using Level 1 and 2 charging. A battery electric vehicle (BEV) uses batteries to power the motor, must be charged to operate, and is usually charged at home using Level 1 and 2 chargers plus DC Fast Charging or Tesla Supercharging.
How do I find charging stations?
Charging-station locator links to be provided.
What makes a charger “compatible”?
Compatible chargers can connect to the internet and communicate securely with the EVX ChargeSmart program, enabling automatic time-based charging.
Can I participate if I already have a smart charger installed?
Yes, if your charger is supported. You can connect it through the program dashboard without replacing your existing equipment.
